Force - transmitting mechanism. - In motor vehicles having two or more driving axles one of the independent brakes is applied to the front driving axle only and the other brake is applied to either (1) the transmission, (2) the front driving axle, or (3) both driving axles. In the construction shown diagrammatically in Figs. 7 and 8, a hand-lever d applies brakes on both driving axles a, b, by means of rods d<1>, p, levers f<1>, n, rods h<1>, q and arms i , o on the cam-shafts e<1>, e<3>. The pedal j applies brakes on the front axle a only by mechanism, shown in Fig. 8, but not in Fig. 7, and comprising rods j<1>, lever f and an arm on the cam-shaft e. Both axles are pivotally-mounted about an axis c having a bracket carrying the pivots for the brake levers. Modifications are described in which (1) the hand and foot brakes each act on the front axle only, and (2) the hand brake acts on the front axle and the foot brake on the transmission.
