307,452. Kershaw, W. E., and Woodbridge, J. L. Dec. 8, 1927. Electrolytes.-A cell for use in providing a counter E.M.F. consists of two nickel electrodes 2, 3 in a solution of sodium or potassium hydroxide. Sodium or potassium chromate may be added to the hydroxide solution and nickel alloys such as nichrome may be used instead of nickel for the electrodes. If the current is to pass through the cell in one direction only the cathode may be of iron &c. A layer of oil 5 covers the electrolyte to reduce evaporation and prevent the absorption of carbon dioxide from the air.
