761,948. Batteries. BOPP, A. Oct. 13, 1955, No. 27144/54. Class 53. A fuel cell that operates at room temperatures is provided with an electrolyte consisting of sodium fluoride, potassium nitrate, nitric acid and a solution of potassium bichromate and chromium trioxide to which oxygen is supplied during the operation of the cell. The anode consists of coal, coke, graphite or other carbonaceous substance. Oils and gases may also be used as anodes and may be fed to theelectrolyte through porous carbon or aluminium. The cathode may consist of chromium-plated iron or of lead peroxide. The cell may be made up as a two-fluid cell, the cathode being immersed in a solution of caustic soda.
