Abstract
434,417. Charging batteries. HAMILTON, N. H., 8, Overstrand Mansions, Battersea, London. Feb. 22, 1934, No. 5843. [Class 38 (iv)] [See also Group XXXVI] A method of charging an accumulator consists in passing the current through both electrodes in the usual way until the positive electrode is fully charged and then continuing the charging of the negative electrode by passing the current through it and through a supplementary or third electrode immersed in the electrolyte. The third electrode is inserted in the cell in a symmetrical position with respect to the main electrodes and may be raised out of the electrolyte when the cell is not being charged. In a lead accumulator the third electrode may be made of lead or carbon.
