Abstract

290,539. Sachs Ges., R. Dec. 1, 1927, [Convention date]. Battery with reserve group of cells; cases; connections.-A high tension battery from which various voltages may be tapped off by plug connections in the usual way has the cells arranged and connected so that two similar groups of cells a, b are provided, either of which may be used at will in series with the remaining cells c so that one group serves as a reserve for the other. As shown the positive electrodes of the last cells in groups a, b are connected to the negative electrode of the first cell in group c so that by making one plug connection to the first cell in group a or b as desired that group is brought into use, the other connection being made to the appropriate cell in group c. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which a group d of cells is provided in front of groups a, b, the last cell of group d having a connector e which can be connected to group a or b as desired, the tapping connection being made with group d and the appropriate cell of group c. Two or more reserve groups may be provided for.
