Manures.-A granular fertilizer is made by mixing a strong solution or melt of ammonium nitrate with calcium carbonate obtained as a bye-product in the manufacture of ammonium sulphate from calcium sulphate and ammonium carbonate. The mixture is evaporated to dryness by heating to 50‹ to 100‹ C. under vacuum. The crude granular product is graded by sieving, the over-size granules nnd fibres being returned to the evaporator.
