Abstract
<PICT:0625863/III/1> Granular phosphatic fertilisers are made by producing a superphosphate slurry in the mixer 1, passing the slurry through a pair of rotary granulators or conditioners 4, 5 arranged in series, and finally passing the granulated material through a rotary dryer 9. To produce a compound fertiliser, fines and additional salts such as potash and sulphate of ammonia are added to the second granulator through chute 7. Formation of granules in the second granulator may be encouraged by the addition of water. The granulators may be provided with deflecting plates or lifting flights to increase the time of travel of the material therethrough and the first granulator may be driven at a slower speed than the second.
