Abstract
307,575. Worboys, W. J., and Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd. Jan. 9, 1928. Manures.-Fertilizers are obtained in granular form by using iron phosphate or aluminium phosphate or other gelatinous phosphate as a binding material. The gelatinous phosphate may be added to a paste of the fertilizers or may be precipitated in the presence of the fertilizer. The mixture may be granulated by extrusion through dies under pressure. A granulated fertilizer is obtained by treating natural phosphate containing iron or aluminium with sulphuric acid with or without a neutral sulphate, separating calcuim sulphate by filtration, neutralizing the phosphoric acid by means of ammonia, partially evaporating: the product and granulating the paste obtained. Other salts such as potassium chloride and ammonium sulphate may be added before granulation. The granules may be dried to harden their exterior. In an example described, a finely ground mixture of ammonium phosphate, ammonium sulphate and potash salts is, mixed with water and a small quantity of gelatinous iron or aluminium phosphate, the product being granulated as described above.
