Abstract

339,969. Odda Smelteverk Aktieselskabet, and Johnson, E. Nov. 24, 1928, [Convention date]. Addition to 339,340. Manures. - Compound fertilizers are obtained in processes in which the mother liquor, obtained after the crystallization of calcium nitrate from a solution of phosphate rock in nitric acid as described in the parent Specification, is neutralized with or cause to react with ammonia, urea, cyanimide or cyanamide salts such as calcium cyanamide, mineral phosphates, compounds of ammonia and carbonic acid, alkali carbonates and the like, or with a plurality of these substances, so that after the removal of water from the product, dry stable fertilizing substances are obtained. In addition, one or more further compounds, for example potassium or ammonium salts such as the sulphate. nitrate, chloride or phosphate, urea, or urea salts may be added in the solid, dissolved or molten state before, during or after the reaction of the substances previously referred to. The lime content of the mother liquor may be removed prior to the neutralization or reaction by precipitation with sulphuric acid. ammonium sulphate, alkali sulphates, alkali bisulphate or the like, and filtration. The mother liquor may be prepared containing ,as much nitric acid as is desired in the final product as nitrate. The reaction or neutralization may be carried out under vacuum to utilize more efficiently the heat of reaction developed for evaporating the water present. The apparatus employed in handling the mother liquor may be constructed of or lined with ebonite or a composition comprising asbestos and the material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Bakelite."
