Abstract

305,675. Soc. des Avions Bernard. Feb. 9, 1928, [Convention date]. Aeroplanes; cabins; planes, construction of. - A multicellular wing for an aeroplane has a resisting portion consisting of a number of laterally juxtaposed longitudinal cells constituted by booms of fibrous material such as wood whose outer surface corresponds to the outer surface of the wing and by vertical partitions each extending from one face of the wing to the other between consecutive booms. A series of vertical partitions a<1>, Fig. 7, which may be made up of inclined strips are glued or otherwise secured between booms b<1> conforming to the surface of the wing, the partitions being stayed by horizontal strips c<1>. The wing may be made roughly to shape as shown to the right of the Figure and subsequently trimmed. The wing has a central enlarged portion which acts as a section of the fuselage and has an axial opening in the enlarged section. Certain of the partitions a<1> near the transverse axis of the wing may be shortened to produce a bifurcated framework towards the wing tips. As shown in Fig. 3, the aeroplane is made up of separate interchangeable sections comprising a propelling element a, the wing structure b, an alighting element c and the fuselage and balancing unit d. The sections may be coupled up after assembly by bolts, eyelets &c.
