508,348. Aircraft-structures. DORNIER-WERKE GES., and DORNIER, C. Oct. 13, 1938, No. 29708. Convention date, Dec. 11, 1937. [Class 4] Aircraft hollow structural members comprise an outer covering comprising an inner plate 53 and an outer plate 54 separated by distance members 55 which are at least twice as thick as one outer plate and extend in the direction of the principal stresses. Fuselage and wing are shown constructed in this manner. The rivets 56 attaching stringers to the fuselage covering or a spar to a wing covering are arranged to pass through a distance piece. A part of a distance member may be enlarged to accommodate a crowded number of rivets. The distance members may be tapered according to the stresses to be borne at different parts of the member and may be reinforced by cross-wise arranged bars.
