Abstract

Framework. - Wooden spars, struts, longerons, &c. for aeroplanes are constructed of webs A, B arranged in cruciform manner and fitted with peripheral filling-in pieces C to give the external shape desired. The web B may comprise two pieces fitting into grooves at oppositesides of the web A. The hollow spaces D are filled in at the ends of the spar and at points where fittings are to be attached. A fairing F of veneer may be added as shown.
