Abstract
304,355. Rodwell, A. G., Roper, W., and Hart, A. J. C. Oct. 19, 1927. Plastic compositions containing soluble silicates; metals.-A medium for cements consists of an alkali silicate and sodium nitrate. A preferred composition consists of 60 volumes of commercial sodium silicate (140 Tw) to which is added 35 volumes of water and 5 volumes of a saturated aqueous solution of sodium nitrate. The amount of sodium nitrate should not be less than half or more than twice the amount indicated. The medium may be used with finely divided metals such as zinc, earths, pigments, and fillers as white lead, barium and calcium carbonates and other mineral carbonates, zinc oxide, &c., or for binding purposes with fireclays, &c.
