Abstract

303,975. Matter, O. Nov. 25, 1927. Projectiles.-A shell is charged with compressed trinitrotoluene or the like and provided with a cap containing highly compressed pentaerythritoltetranitrate, tetranitromethylaniline, or the like, or mixtures of these, over which is superimposed an igniting charge of strongly compressed heavy metal azide such as lead azide. A small calibre shell is charged with strongly compressed trinitrotoluene, tetranitromethylaniline, hexanitrodiphenylaniline, picric acid, pentaerythritoltetranitrate, or the like, or mixtures of these, instead of the usual smokeless powder, and is fitted with a cap containing a highly compressed heavy metal azide such as lead azide. Specifications 2407/12, [Class 9 (ii), Torpedoes &c.], and 287,906 are referred to.
