Abstract
944,442. Detonators. J. O. BJORKLUND, J.A.D.ELDH,andG.V.GUSTAFFSON,[trading as FORSVARETS FABRIKSSTVRELSE]. Sept. 25, 1961 [Oct. 24, 1960], No. 34204/61 Heading F3A. A detonator for blasting charges or ammunition is ignitable by shock wave, impact, other than by firing pin, or heat and comprises a sleeve 5 having a thickness of 1-5 m.m., preferably 1-3 m.m., of metal, wood, plastics, ceramics or glass separates priming composition layers 3 and 6. The sleeve is closed by an aluminium foil disc 2 and a metal washer 8. The layer 3 is preferably between ¢ and 4 m.m. in thickness and may be of lead or silver azide with the addition of tricinate in the case of heat ignition. The layer 6 may be one or other of the above-mentioned azides and an explosive layer 7 of, for example, trotyl may be incorporated. In a second embodiment an aluminium or plastics cover is attached over aperture 1, the underside of which is coated with hard, sharpedged and brittle granules. To prevent undesired ignition a removable disc is fitted between the granules and layer 3. Preferably the disc is removed laterally through a slit in the sleeve. A third embodiment is provided with an annular electrode and a central pin electrode for spark ignition. The electrodes are insulated by a filling of enamel or plastics and to the composition of layer 3 may be added graphite.
