A threaded percussion primer suitable for igniting the propellent charge of a 20-40 mm. cartridge has an explosive, smokeless primer charge consisting of porous nitro-cellulose powder and a foil of nitroglycerine powder (double base powder). The foil may serve as a cover plate for the primer.
