Abstract
823,793. Ammunition projectiles. NEDERLANDSCHE MACHINEFABRIEK ARTILLERIE-INRTCHTINGEN N. V. Aug. 14, 1956 [Aug. 17, 1955], No. 24887/56. Class 9(1) A high explosive shell is provided with a compound charge comprising a shock sensitive core 2 surrounded by a less sensitive envelope 3. The core may consist of one or more cylinders formed by mixing hexogen with aluminium powder and compressing the mixture. The outer explosive is trinitrotoluene and is poured into the casing 1 and, after solidification, is bored to receive the core 2. Adhesive or paraffin may be used to tighten the core in the envelope and the outer end of the core may be covered with a cylinder 4 of non-hygroseopic explosive, e.g. hexogen.
