Abstract
566,195. Blasting detonators. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I., and BURROWS, L. A. Jan. 18, 1943, No. 876. [Class 9 (i)] Relates to detonators of the type comprising a base charge 2 (e.g. of tetryl), a primer charge 3 (e.g. of lead azide) and an ignition charge 5 (e.g. a composition containing a blend of lead styphnate and tetryl) adapted to be ignited by the spit of a cord fuze inserted in the open end of the aluminium tube 1 : and consists of an intermediate charge 4 located between the charges 3, 5 which is incapable of transmitting combustion except when confined, as by the insertion of the fuze cord into the end of the tube. Suitable substances for the intermediate charge are compressed nitromannite, erythritol tetranitrate, nitrated sugar-nitrostarch mixtures and smokeless powder.
