Abstract
24,839. Claessen, C. Oct. 31. Explosives.-Consists in the use of hexanitroethane alone or mixed with other ingredients to form propellant or detonating explosives. A gunpowder contains 68 parts of nitrocellulose, 16 parts of hexanitroethane, 9 parts of trinitrotoluene, and 7 parts of diethyldiphenylurea, mixed in a moist state, made into a gelatine by heating, dried, and finally shaped by heated rollers or presses. A blasting-powder contains 36 parts of trinitrotoluene and 64 parts of hexanitroethane. A mixture of 55 parts of trinitrotoluene and 45 parts of hexanitroethane can be easily detonated by fulminate of mercury and can cause the detonation of other explosives, and is therefore suitable as a filling for shells and for detonators.
