Abstract
303,635. Johnson, J. Dec. 10, 1927. Water-tube boilers having upper and lower drums connected by water-tubes are provided with superheater tubes which are secured at least at one end to one or more of the steam-and.water drums and are arranged along the whole or part of the drum in rows transverse to its axis and between and alternating with similar rows of water-tubes. In a boiler having outwardly curved tubes C', C<2>, as described in Specification 288,470, a pair of tubes F form one leg of a loop and deliver into a pocket G by way of the return leg F<1>. The steam then traverses a second loop F<2>, F<3>, superheated steam being drawn from a pocket G<1>. The tube rows F - - F<3> are alternated along a part or whole of the length of the drum A with rows of the water-tubes C<2>. A few rows C<1> near the furnace are of larger diameter than the outer rows C<2>. In modifications the steam may make only one double pass through the hot gases and one or more of the internal pockets may be replaced by an external header or headers.
