431,658. Water-tube steam boilers. JOHNSON, J., Northumbria, Golf Side, Cheam, Surrey. March 29, 1934, Nos. 9814 and 22711. [Class 123 (ii)] Groups of outwardly curved nested U-tubes 2 depending from a steam and water drum A, are symmetrically arranged on the two sides of a boiler and surround the combustion chamber. Superheating tubes D may be arranged horizontally in the crescent-shaped space between the U-tubes on one side of the boiler, and similarly arranged feed heating or reheating tubes E may be inserted between the U -tubes on the other side. In a modification, the superheating tubes are arranged vertically between the transverse nests of boiler tubes and are connected either directly to the boiler drum or to a steam drum in communication therewith. Water circulation may be promoted by a propeller forcing water from the drum into the outer limbs of the U-tubes. Specification 288,470, [Class 123 (ii)], is referred to in the first Provisional Specification.
