Optical apparatus, applications of. -In advertising devices and the like in which an object viewed through an inclined transparent sheet is co-related with the image of an illuminated stencil reflected by the sheet, the object c is continuously illuminated bv a source of light h, direct rays from which are confined behind the sheet b by a shield h<1>. One or more lamp compartments e may be arranged above one or more stencils d, and the lamps lit in any desired sequence. Daylight may be employed for illuminating the stencil, which alternatively may be lit from the front. A stencilled sign may be provided on the front e<1> of the lamp compartment e. The sheet b may be of celluloid or of frosted glass.
