Liquids, treating with; designs, producing.- Ornamental effects are produced on pile fabrics having the pile composed of or comprising arti. ficial filaments of cellulose acetate or other cellulose derivative and a ground not composed of a cellulose derivative, by applying to selected portions of the back of the fabric a substance which will soften or weaken the cellulose derivative pile filaments, and then removing the loosened pile 'by mechanical treatment, e.g. brushing or suction. The substance used may be mixed with diluents, thickening agents, inert powders, or dyes, and may be applied by spraying, printing, &c. The fabric may be dyed before, after, or both before and after treatment. Specification 263,355 is referred to.
