[Class 42 (i)] [See also Group XVI] CrÛpe effects, producing designs on face, producing.-A fabric containing crepe threads is embossed prior to scouring with a close pattern of continuous lines which are long compared with the distance between the lines, the crÛpeing following the lines of the embossed pattern. As shown, the fabric 10 is embossed between a heated ring 14 and a rubber roll 12, the fabric being damped immediately before it is embossed by a blanket 15. The pattern may consist of uniformly spaced parallel lines, lines arranged in pairs, Fig. 5, producing the effect shown in Fig. 6, or parallel lines in alternate directions as shown in Fig. 7. The embossing ring, Fig. 7, is made up of alternate sections cut from right and left hand threaded tubes. Some fabrics, instead of or in addition to being damped may be treated with softening agents and the embossing operation may be combined with a saponifying step, thus making possible pleasing dyeing effects.
