Abstract

401,504. Finishing fabrics. BLEACHERS' ASSOCIATION, Ltd., Blackfriars House, Parsonage, Manchester, and SUTTON, G. D., Penwortham Hall, Preston. Dec. 13, 1932, No. 35260. [Class 42 (i).] Designs and crepe effects, producing.-Pattern effects are produced on fabrics composed wholly or in part of crepe yarns by subjecting the fabric to heavy compression and heat in selected areas while the crepe yarns are in an extended condition as compared with their condition in the finished fabric, the selected areas thus showing a cockled effect in the finished fabric. The fabric may be treated either before or after the yarns have been caused to undergo the shrinkage which produce the creping effect, the extended condition being obtained in the latter case by applying tension to the fabric in the warp or waft direction or both while the heat and pressure is being applied. The treatment is carried out by passing the fabric between a roller with a relief pattern and a smooth roller, the heat and pressure being thus applied by the relief parts of the roller. The process may be applied to fabrics composed of cotton or artificial silk or mixtures thereof or to non-cellulosic fabrics, and also to fabrics in which either the weft or the warp yarns or parts thereof are of non-creping yarns. When applied to fabrics made from yarns composed of delustred cellulose acetate it produces a differential lustre effect as described in Specification 303,286, [Class 42 (i), Fabrics, Finishing &c.]. Where the fabric is subjected to the creping operation before the pressure treatment it may also be dyed before such treatmant.
