Abstract

299,101. Alley, S. E., Leeds Forge Co., Ltd., and Hutt, A. C. July 19, 1927. Railway locomotives, steam; locomotives of compound or articulated construction. - The steam engine 22 of a locomotive or a railway motor vehicle is mounted on a sub-frame 18 pivoted on the axle 14 at one end and resiliently supported at the other by a flange 21 on the bogie. The transmission gearing may comprise two trains of spur wheels of different ratio. The sub-frame 18 may itself be resilient and the engine may rest on resilient pads. The invention may be applied to locomotives mounted either on driving bogies or on a rigid wheel-base, and any number of axles may be driven, each by its own engine or engines mounted on a sub-frame.
