Cylinders, cooling, barrels of, and mounting.-In a multicylinder engine in which separate barrels b are mounted in a cvlinder block a, forming the water jacket, strengthening means g are provided, adjacent the bridges d between the sides of the block, so that the length of the engine may be reduced. The means g may comprise bolts having a countersunk conical heads and nuts or simple bars, the ends being engaged with thickened parts of the block a. The barrels are screwed at c into the heads and provided with expansion joints e.
