475,123. Propelling aircraft. SOC. FRANCAISE HISPANO-SUIZA. May 14, 1936, No. 13656. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1935. [Class 4] [Also in Group XIII] A radiator of arcuate cross-section surrounds the crank-case of, e.g. an aircraft engine, on the side opposite the cylinders. In one form a V-cylinder aircraft engine is mounted on triangulated framework 5 and is surrounded by a cowl 2 having an adjustable air inlet 7 and an air outlet 9. The radiator 3 is arranged in the air stream and under the engine. The radiator may be rectangular or of polygonal longitudinal section. In a modification, two radiators, one for water and the other for lubricating oil, are arranged one above the other and in this case the air for each radiator may be guided by partitions. The radiator for the lubricating oil may be embedded in or disposed between two parts of or behind the radiator 3 as shown in Fig. 8. In this latter case, partitions may be provided to separate the air supplied to and passing through each radiator. The invention may be applied to inverted-V-cylinder engines.
