April 2, 1928, Windows and the like, cleaning.- In a windscreen cleaner operated by means of a motor, the pressure of the wiping element against the windscreen is automatically varied dn accordance with the power applied to the motor. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the cleaner is adapted to be actuated by a suction-operated motor A, the piston of which is of the oscillating vane type. To the rock shaft 1 is fixed a member 8 provided at one end with a stud 7, in which is pivotally mounted the end '6 of the cleaner arm 4 carrying the wiping element 3. A spring 22 surrounding part of the arm 4 bears against a stirrup member 20, the other end of which is connected to a lever 17 mounted on the member 8. The upper end of the lever 17 is engaged by a bearing block 15 which is journaled in an extension 14 of a piston rod 11. The rod is attached to a piston 10 forming part of an auxiliary motor which communicates through the passage 13 with the primary suction passage 2 of the main motor A. As the suction varies, the piston 10 changes its position in the cylinder 9 and imparts movement to the lever 17, thereby varying the pull of the stirrup 20 on the spring 22, and thus altering the pressure of the wiping element 3 against the screen. In the construction shown in Figs. 5 and 7, the cleaner arm 4<1> is directly connected to the shaft 1<1> of the motor A<1>, and the auxiliary motor comprises an openended cylinder 9<1> and a piston 10<1>, the latter being connected to the stirrup member 20<1>. A spring 29 may be provided to press the piston toward the open end of the cylinder. The space inside the cylinder communicates, by means of a sleeve 27, with the main suction passage of the motor A<1>.
