Abstract

298,036. White, A. E., (K. P. Products Co., Inc.). March 7, 1928. Fluid governors.-In a governor for an internal. combustion engine comprising a fluid-operated piston B connected to a valve A arranged between the carburettor and the intake manifold, the differential pressure between the valve and the intake manifold and the atmosphere operates the valve. The ports in the valve A are so shaped that each equal increment of movement towards the closed position cuts off a progressively diminishing area of the controlled passage-way. The piston B is grooved at 12 and engages teeth on the valve which is housed between seats C, C, Fig. 4, provided with fuel ports 5 communicating with the intake and outlet 6, 7 and which are tapered and twisted to give a Venturi action. The piston B is subject to vacuum through the duct 9. The other end is subject to the atmosphere through a port a. The piston B is also subject to the successive action of a series of springs of varying resistance 15 - - 19. The springs 15, 16 are housed within the piston B around a thimble abutment 23, and are connected to an adjustment screw 21. The springs 17, 18, 19 are secured to the supporting rod 24 and are completely compressed in turn.
