Abstract
297,327. Bothe, O. Sept. 17, 1927, [Convention date]. Public address systems; loud-speakers. - An apparatus which is particularly intended for advertising purposes, and which comprises means for recording sound magnetically on a steel wire or strip, and for reproducing the recorded sound, using a valve amplifier operating a loudspeaker, can also be used for direct reproduction, by the loud-speaker, of words spoken into a microphone. For use in shop windows, a loud-speaker is employed which utilizes the window pane as a diaphragm. Fig. 6 is a circuit diagram, showing how a microphone 55 may be connected either to a sound-recording magnet 24 or to the input side of a valve system by which a loud-speaker 53 is operated. With the switch 34 in a position indicated at III, words spoken into the microphone can be directly reproduced by the loud-speaker. The loudspeaker, as shown in Fig. 4, comprises a heavy body 62 suspended by a rod 63 so that. a rod 64, adjustably connected to the polarized armature 58, bears against a window-pane 66. Vibrations are thus transmitted to the glass, which acts as a diaphragm. An iron yoke 60 is pre-magnetized by a coil 61, and the speech currents pass through a coil 59.
