Abstract

Magnetic instruments; systems for transmitting music; diaphragms. - An electromagnetic recorder and reproducer is constructed with electromagnets arranged on both sides of an armature constructed as a peripherally-clamped circular diaphragm which may be stretched and is connected to the stylus bar. Fig. 8 shows the circuit arrangement, the magnet windings 5, 6 being in series in a circuit including the coil 7 of a transformer 8, which impresses the current on a valve amplifier 13 whose output circuit delivers through transformer 15 to further amplifiers or direct to a loud speaker. The mid-point of the coil 7 is connected to a point in the magnet circuit between the magnet windings. In one construction, Fig. 1, an insulating casing in two parts 31, 32 connected by a screwed sleeve 35 clamps a diaphragm armature 38, to which the stylus bar 40 is connected. Each part 31, 32 carries a magnet composed of two rings 43, 45 and two angle pieces 61 to receive the coils, the ends of which are connected to terminals 53. Screws through the casings and engaging the inner ring secure the rings and angle piece together and in position. In a modification, Fig. 5, the casing is constructed to stretch a thin steel diaphragm aramature 114, which carries a disc 134 for connection to the stylus bar 133. In this construction, the two parts 103, 116 of the casing are flanged and fitted with adjustable shouldered linings 104, 117 to support discs 107, 120 carrying the magnets. After fitting up the elements to the part 103 the diaphragm 114 is clamped between roughened faces on the flange 130 and a ring 112, and the part 116 is then applied, whereby a projection 132 thereon stretches the diaphragm as the flanges are drawn together by screws 135. The elements of the part 116 are then fitted up and adjusted.
