Abstract

776,656. Recording and reproducing sound. VEB. FUNKWERK KOPENICK. Oct. 16, 1953, No. 28640/53. Class 40 (2). Intervals are provided in the reproduction of a recording, e.g. to facilitate the typing of a recorded speech, either by momentarily stopping the apparatus during reproduction or by causing the record to travel faster during a pause in, e.g., a speech, whilst recording. The stopping and starting of the record or the increase of speed are effected automatically by pauses in the recorded signals. As applied to a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus, during reproduction, when an interval in the reproduced sound occurs, a condenser C1 discharges through a resistance R1 and contacts K4, K5, the potential at the control grid of valve Va<SP>1</SP> becomes more positive, current flows through the valve, the relay Rel1 is energized, closing contacts K2, K3 causing a magnet M1 to be excited which through an armature e, Fig. 5, and coupling pinions c, d, causes the drive of the record to be reversed, until a nut W on a worm R operates a switch S1. The output from the reproducing head amplifier V is shortcircuited by contacts K6, K7. A current source U1 charges the condenser C1 negatively, after a time depending upon the value of an adjustable resistance R2, causing the valve Va<SP>1</SP> to become non-conducting and the relay Rel1 to become dead. U1 is now connected through contacts K1 K2 to relay Rel2 which after a delay connects U1 to magnet M2 to drive the record forward. If there is no interval in the sound, condenser C2 is charged negatively by the output of the amplifier V which acts to make the valve the Va<SP>1</SP> conducting and the cycle begins as with an interval of sound.
