Abstract

Movements of vehicles, utilizing. - Transmission gear between a running axle e and a motor or other machine a in driving connection therewith comprises toothed gears f, g provided with plain cylindrical surfaces f<1>, g<1> having diameters corresponding with the pitch circles of the gears, the motor or machine being pivotally suspended and acted upon by means tending constantly to maintain the mesh of the gears and rolling contact between the cylindrical surfaces. The motor or machine o may be a driving or a driven dynamo or compressor. In the construction shown, the machine a is pivoted at c to the bogie frame and the gears are kept in mesh by a spring i. Cylindrical surfaces may be provided on each side of the gearwheels f, g, or gear-wheels may be provided on each side of the cylindrical surfaces. The pinion g and rolling surface g' may be formed with a short axle boss k, as shown in Fig. 5, so that the surface g<1> overhangs the boss. This construction, it is stated, gives a more flexible drive and reduces jarring.
