Abstract

197,766. Fraser, P. L. R. March 2, 1922. Transmission gear of invariable ratio. - In friction and toothed epicyclic gearing for use in connecting two or more parallel shafts in electric trucks, locomotives, &c., frames carrying toothed or friction members, or both, engaging corres- - ponding members on at least one of the shafts are connected by cranks or the like to at least one other of the shafts. Centrifugal force assists to produce a driving pressure between the surfaces. The crank-pin drive may be spring- cushioned. Gear teeth may be arranged beside the friction surfaces. Fig. 5 shows an electric truck or locomotive driven from a suspended electromotor T, the shaft A of which drives a pair of crank-pins I side-by-side, each operating a frame K provided with lugs B<1>, C<1> and having a friction surface l<1> engaging a friction wheel P on the driven axle. The lugs B', C<1>, on the two frames are interconnected by cranks so that the movements of the frames are completely controlled.
