Abstract
194,992. Reid, T., Finlayson, N. T., and Pitt Railway Equipments, Ltd. June 22, 1922. Reversing-gearing.-A shaft 31, which may drive a train-lighting dynamo 38, is driven in the same direction whatever the direction of rotation of a driving shaft 1 through bevel and helical gearing. A bevel-gear 33 secured to the shaft 31 meshes with gears 19, 20 loose upon a transverse countershaft 16. Loose upon the shaft 16 and between the gears 19, 20 is mounted a single-helical gear 27 having dog clutch faces 28, 29. Secured to the shaft or axle 1 is a helical wheel 2. As the wheel 2 turns the gear 27 is slid to one side or the other into clutch engagement, the effect being to drive the shaft 31 always in the same direction. The clutch dogs are inclined on their non-driving faces so as not to transmit stopping shocks to the dynamo.
