Abstract
295,716. Du Pont de Nemours & Co., E. I., (Assignees of Kern, J. G.). Aug. 19, 1927, [Convention date]. Leuco compounds of vat dyes, esters of.-The sulphuric esters of leuco compounds of vat dyes are stabilized by treating them with an alkylolamine. The treatment may comprise dissolving the sodium salts of the leucoesters in one or more alkylolamines, or the sodium salts may be treated with an organic acid to liberate the acid esters, which are then converted into the alkylolamine salts. The alkylolamines may contain one or more mono-, di- or poly-oxyalkyl groups. In an example, Soledon Jade Green paste is treated with acetic acid tc, precipitate the free leuco sulphuric acid ester and the latter is filtered and dissolved in diethanolamine, preferably in the absence of oxygen. Mono- or triethanolamine! or methyl-dipropanediolamine may be used instead of diethanolamine, and the process may be applied to other " Indigosol " or " Soledon " colours. The alkylolamine may also be added to a printing paste made up with one of the commercial leuco esters and British gumstarch thickening; cotton, silk or wool is printed with the paste and passed through a bath containing ferric chloride, ammonium persulphate, or sodium nitrite and sulphuric acid. Specifications 186,057, 231,889, 247,787, and 251,491 are referred to.
