Abstract

295,191. Christensen, F. A. M. Feb. 11,1928. Thermionic amplifiers.- The degree of amplification is automatically limited by providing one or more controlling valves adapted to respond only to such portions of the applied potential variations as exceed a predetermined amplitude. The anode-current variations are added algebraically to the anode current of an amplifying valve, to which is applied the same potential variations but in opposite phase. The Figure shows amplifying valves 11, 13 and controlling valves 19, 20 so biased by potentiometers 30, 31 that one responds only to positive and the other to negative applied potentials above the predetermined value. The anode circuits of valves 11, 19, 20 are connected in parallel to the transformer 12 while the input through the centre-tapped transformer 10 to the valve 11 is in opposite phase to that of valves 19, 20.
