Abstract

462,247. Valve amplifying circuits. BROWN, A. J., and BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd. Sept. 4, 1935, No. 24656. [Class 40 (v)] Distortion due to the characteristic of an associated circuit or device, e.g. the modulation characteristic of a cathode-ray tube in which the light intensity is generally not proportional to the modulating potential, is compensated by a parallel valve arrangement. One valve is a triode capable of handling large signals while the other is a variable-mu valve, the screen potential of which may be varied. The signals are preferably applied in the negative sense and means provided such as the potentiometer 3 to control the ratio of the signal applied to the two valves. The Figure shows an arrangement in which a resistance 5 is included in the triode output to prevent loss of the gain from the variable-mu valve 1, the output being taken from the common load resistance 4.
