Abstract
295,072. Siemens Electric Lamps & Supplies, Ltd., and Oakley, P. D. May 13, 1927. Residual gases.-Gas-filled tungsten-filament lamp bulbs contain, in addition to the usual gas filling, chlorine substitution products of the aliphatic hydrocarbons, e.g. methyl chloride. methylene chloride, chloroform, and carbon tetrachloride. The desired product may be formed in the bulbs, e.g. by introducing a mixture of ethane and chlorine, or of ethylene and hydrochloric acid gas or chlorine. Mixtures such as alcohol and hydrochloric acid gas that would produce water vapour in addition to the desired product are inadmissible. Specification 270,900. which describes the introduction of oxyhalide of carbon into the gas filling, is referred to.
