294,808. Cristiani, S. Oct. 28, 1927. Sliding bolts. - In motor and other cycles a lock is provided to prevent movement of the steering column, the bolt being parallel to the column. The lock 6 is housed in a casing 5 secured to the frame by the bolt 4 of the steering fork. Arms 14 surround a hub 5<11> of the casing and are secured to the top tube of the frame. The lower arm has a hole a and locking is effected by rotating a cam 9 by means of a key to raise the bolt 10 to engage in the hole. In the case of motorcycles, rings 12, 16, 17 are interposed. By compressing the rings and arms 14 by means of a wing nut 19 and a spring 18 a braking action on the steering may be obtained. In a modified construction rack teeth are formed on the bolt 10, which is moved by a helical thread on the lock barrel.
