Abstract
489,004. Locking cycle &c. wheels to prevent unauthorized use. BURTON, J. Jan. 16, 1937, No. 1358. [Class 79 (iii)] Means for preventing unauthorized use of cycles &c. comprises a pivoted wheel-locking arm 12 mounted on a reduced extension 26 of the casing 13 of a rotary barrel lock 14 secured to the cycle &c. frame by a clip 45. The arm is rotatable through 90‹ between its inoperative and operative positions and is locked in each position by a spring-pressed sliding bolt 27 housed in the casing extension 26 and engageable by an eccentric pin 34 on the end of the lock barrel 14 so that it may be retracted to release the arm by rotating the barrel by means of the key. The barrel is retained in the lock casing 13 by a tangential pin 24 engaging an annular groove 25. A cover 17 is secured on the casing 13 by a tangential screw 22 and is extended to form a skirt 17a partly enclosing the pivotal boss of the arm 12 and providing stops to limit the angular movements of the arm. The assemblage is secured to the clip 45 by a threaded shank 36 with a squared shoulder 35 engaging a corresponding hole in the clip, the nut 43 threaded on the shank being difficult of access when the clip is secured to the fork arm 47 or other frame part, the bolts or rivets 48 securing the clip also being difficult or incapable of detachment.
