Abstract

Guarding against unauthorized use.-The brake lever on a cycle: is locked in its operative position to prevent theft &c. by a hook 7 on a rack 6, which passes through a box 1 fixed to the handlebar or other part by a band 21 adjustably secured to the box by a screw 20 and a screw 17 with a nut. The teeth of the rack are engaged by a number of locking-plates 9 separated by distanceplates 10, all the plates turning on the pivot pin 3. The locking-plates 9, Fig. 4, are reversible and have a hole 22 for the bolt 17, which forms a stop. Their ends are shaped as shown at 11 and arranged on the pin 3 in a way known only to the user, so that some must be turned to the right by the handles 12 and others to the left in order that all of them may be free of the rack teeth to enable the locking-bar 6 to be moved.
