Opening by tearing. - A box or carton for surgical dressings &c. is made from a blank folded to tubular form and secured by a flap 12 extending from the side wall 10 and glued to the adjacent wall 11; the goods are then packed into the box from the ends which are closed and sealed by flaps 5 secured to glued flaps 6 and each carrying a tongue 8 having spaced adhesive areas 15 which become attached to the side wall 10. The flap 12 has a single line of severance 13 extending the whole length of the box and access to the contents of the box is obtained by slitting the flap 12 along the line 13 and freeing the side wall 10 from the tongues 8; the box may be subsequently closed by inserting the unglued part 14 of the flap 12 underneath the side wall 11.
