Stage, shop-window, and likelamps; lantern screens. -In a stage, shop-window, or like lamp adapted to produce white or coloured light, there is mounted in front of each of a series of equally-spaced light sources a number of superposed reciprocable slides each having a repeated series of clear and differently coloured transparent panels of equal pitch or size, so that the clear panels, or those of any one colour, can be brought coincident with the light sources, and preferably without passing through any of the other colours, or mixtures of the colours. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a light metal or other fire-proof casing 1 is arranged to project slightly above the outer edge of a stage floor 15, and is provided with a slightly inclined open front in which the slides 8. 9 are reciprocated. The slides are supported by blocks 6, 7, and the blocks and the lower slide may be fitted with ball-bearings 10. 11. Electric lamp bulbs 12, partly silvered as at 16, are arranged so that the filaments 14 are just above the edge of the floor 15 so that light issues parallel to the stage floor and within an angle 17-18 of about 90‹. The back of the casing 1 may be fitted with a reflector and may have one or more doors for the insertion of the bulbs. One slide 8 may carry amber, clear, and green panels A, C, G, and the other slide 9 may carry blue, clear, and red panels B, C, R, as shown in Fig. 3. and a fixed diffusing screen in the form of one or more pieces 31 of lightly-ground or frosted glass may be arranged in front of the slides. The slides may be connected by cables 19, 20 to controlling wheels 22, 23 which are mounted on a shaft 25 and are provided with handles 27 and with coloured segments a, c, g and b, c, r, adapted to be brought in turn coincident with white segments w on stationary brackets 24 so as to indicate which of the panels are in front of the bulbs 12. The handles 27 may have screwthreaded portions 28 engaging screwed brackets 29 so as to bind on the shaft 25 in order that a number of slides may be moved simultaneously by means of a master control-switch 26. In a modification the cables are secured to rods which bear coloured bars and are moved up and down opposite a fixed indicator.
