Abstract
296,884. Holophane, Ltd., and Williams, R. G. Aug. 19, 1927. Ceiling and like overhead lamps; wall lamps.- A lamp, for changing colour lighting or other indoor decorative illumination, is let into or secured to a ceiling, wall, or like surface, and the light passes through two or more layers of glass which are moved relatively to one another and have refracting or diffusing prisms or flutes on one or both sides. The relative motion may be rotary or reciprocating and preferably is quite slow. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a prismatic glass 3, carried by a fixed circular frame 1 let into a ceiling 2, is arranged below a second prismatic glass 6 carried by a circular frame 5 adapted to be rotated slowly by the shaft 7 of an electric motor 8. Light sources and colour screens are mounted in the space 10, a safety screen 4 of wire netting is provided, and the whole appliance is closed in to prevent the access of dust to the interior. In the form shown in Fig. 6, a prismatic glass 17 is carried by a fixed rectangular frame 16 and is arranged below a second prismatic glass carried by a rectangular frame 18 adapted to be reciprocated in guides 19 by a rod 21 connected to a crank-disc 20 driven by an electric motor 22 through a worm gear. Alternatively, the frame 18 may be driven by means of a cam or other mechanism. Various constructions of prismatic or fluted glasses are illustrated in the Specification.
