Cables, arrangement of parts of.-A single-core cable comprises a conducting core A surrounded by a layer B of impregnated fibrous dielectric, a second layer of porous or semi-porous material D, and a metal sheath E. A permeable intersheath C of metallized paper separates the dielectric from the porous material D, and the layer D is made of material which is preferably much less absorbent than the material B. When the cable is in use and the dielectric expands, some of the impregnating fluid may pass through the intersheath C and may be taken up by the material D. Should a contraction take place, the fluid will be drawn back by the more absorbent material B, so that the homogeneity of the dielectric is maintained. The intersheath C and the outer sheath E are connected together.
