Abstract

706,086. Making cables. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd. July 24, 1953 [July 25, 1952], No. 18919/52. Class 36. A cable insulated with impregnated paper is made by applying unimpregnated paper tapes helically to a conductor to form a wall of the required thickness, drying the insulated conductor before bending it, reeling or coiling the dried insulated conductor, impregnating it in this condition and then applying an impervious sheath thereto. The initial drying need not be complete, but is sufficient to reduce the tensions in the paper tapes so that the layers slide over one another without wrinkling when the cable is reeled. In this case the drying is completed before the cable is impregnated.
