Abstract
291,382. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. May 31, 1927, [Convention date]. Canbon bisulphide.- In apparatus for preparing carbon bisulphide by passing superheated vapours of sulphur over heated carbon as described in Specifications 237,716 and 282,049, the superheating chamber B and the main reaction chamber A are formed side by side in a single casting of cast iron or steel and are separated by the usual chamotte lining of the chamber A. The superheating chamber has an interior surface of material resistant to sulphur vapour and may contain fillings of resistant material such as fragments of chamotte, porcelain Raschig rings, or material having a high alumina content such as bauxite, or be formed with a series of trays C having openings D and bricked in at the joints and against the walls, or with a series of plates having staggered openings resting on ribs formed on the casing. Liquid sulphur enters the chamber B at the top, and superheated vapours pass through an opening at the base into the chamber A. More than one superheating chamber may be used, and the superficial area of the superheating chamber is preferably about one half that of the reaction chamber.
