291,347. I. G. Farbenindustsie Akt.- Ges. May 30, 1927, [Convention date]. Addition to 279,506. Diacidyl derivatives of naphthalene and acenaphthene are prepared by treating the hydrocarbon with an aromatic or aliphatic acid chloride in the presence of a metal chloride condensing agent. A solvent, 'such as carbon disulphide, may be present. Examples are given of the preparation of 1 : 5 - dibenzoylnaphthalene from naphthalene and benzoyl chloride, and of dichloracetylacenaphthene and diacetylacenaphthene from acenaphthene with monochloracetylchloride and acetylchloride respectively; in each case aluminium chloride is used as condensing agent.
